During the civil war in America, its president Mr. Abraham Lincoln once said about democracy, “in ideal democracy there should be a government of the people, by the people and for the people.” In accordance to that India has been one of the biggest democracies of the globe since its freedom. But as it is said, every coin has two sides; likewise it goes for democracy too. Larger the democracy, larger the challenges and complexities in its effective execution.
Gujarat is witnessing this since last couple of months. The entire political fraternity has been converted into the great Indian political theatre since the elections have been announced for assembly (rajya sabha). All the political parties have entered the field with their list of promises and assurances. They have been into the cutthroat competition, rather I’d say in war with all other political parties. All have been trying lot to attract, convince and retain their prospected vote banks. But today’s voter have become sensible, rational and wise. In such case it’s difficult to predict the result of the election.
But to do so we may have to understand the basics and backgrounds of the political elements active in the Gujarat fraternity. Majorly there have been two biggest players in Gujarat since decades – BJP and Congress. Apart from that every time there are scattered independent candidates too. AAP has also entered Gujarat since 2014.
To win any election, there are many factors affecting- first & foremost the performance of the ruling party in the previous term, the impact of their decisions and policies on the business and livelihood of a common man, the law & order situation in the region, the hold of the candidate on public and last but not the least image & integrity of candidate.
Gujarat’s election campaign this time has been the fully roller coaster ride. All the parties have dig out the failures of all other opponents; those who have been continuously criticizing politics those so called leaders of some castes have been doing accolade of the parties for getting tickets; the sex CDs of candidates were being released more than movies; many have been accused under atrocity act for abusive statements and gestures; in short the campaign has reached to the extent of the lowest level of ethical and desired campaign.
Now if we see the equation of the possible results regardless so called sponsored exit polls published so far – the public of Gujarat still doesn’t believe much in voting for independent candidates who doesn’t belong to any party; so there is a huge possibility of their defeat. Apart from that there are three major parties of we ignore small groups or political unions – and they are AAP, Congress & BJP. Like there is a card of joker in playing cards, AAP party’s supreme is the joker in the Indian political fraternity because people has seen his stand less statements, poorest management in other states governments, bramble image and senseless arguments. Therefore AAP can never be the voice of wise, sensible and brave public of Gujarat.
When it comes to Congress – it has been the leading party since century in India before its freedom; but since last some decades there has been the downfall in its governance, execution, agenda less management and lack of effective leadership and so on. Even in Gujarat there have been in opposition since decades, moreover they have been drastically fallen short in attracting voters of Gujarat through their election agenda (based on social media and print media sources). So it seems that for congress too there may be difficulty in conquering the majority seats this time.
Lastly we talk about BJP. BJP is not the family driven party, but according to the Gujarati public, it’s a thought process. If we simple look at the statistics, BJP has been the very successful ruling party in Gujarat since decades and trying to perform well too as central government since 2-3 years. Moreover Gujarat is home ground for BJP. If we consider unauthorized figures then there are approximate 4,33,11,000 voters in Gujarat and if we consider average 60% voting done then too there would be approx 2,59,86,600 voters might have casted their votes. There are approximate 75,00,000 active BJP volunteers and if we assume that each of them influence at least 1-1 of their family members and 1-1 friends / colleagues/ neighbours (we are considering at the lowest side, there many 4 people in family average; not counting other than family members) then there would be approx 1,50,00,000 votes on favour of BJP – which is 57% of the total votes being assumed to be casted. So it seems clear majority as of now for BJP.
So far the voting has completed for 89 seats of 19 districts of Gujarat on 9th December, 2017 and still the battle is on for 93 more seats of rest of the districts of Gujarat. Voting for the second phase is on 14th December and election results will be on 18th December.
So dear Gujarati voters, caste your votes very sensibly. Think twice, act wise and elect the most suitable person / party and give command in those hands who thinks for nation first.
