Medical Services in the state has experienced a phenomenal growth in recent years. It has also emerged as the most promising and fast growing sector in Gujarat. The world class facilities, super specialty hospitals, excellent doctors, affordable price and other infrastructures are the reasons for this accreditation.
Helipads on the hospital roof is the next big leap for healthcare in Ahmedabad. With several government and private hospitals considering helipads for their future expansions, the usage of helicopters in the hospital market of Ahmedabad is set to experience a surge.
As per the latest developments, Zydus Hospitals in Ahmedabad has built a helipad on the rooftop of its 15-floor facility at a total cost of around Rs 70 lakh. The 550-bed hospital has plans to set up at an investment of Rs 55 crore, to start the air ambulance facility. “We have already built a helipad at Zydus Hospital and will keep a watch on the demand for air ambulance services and we have plans to offer the air ambulance service but will not start immediately and wait for the economy to grow,” said Pankaj Patel, founder of the hospital and chairman of Cadila Healthcare.
Apollo Hospital has also started provisioning for helipads. The Ahmedabad Civil Hospital in Asarwa is most likely to get a helipad in near future. Fortis hospital which is setting up a large hospital in the GIFT City in Gandhinagar has also sought for a helipad permission.
Regarding the procedure for permission of helipads in hospitals Sardar Vallabhbhai International Airport Director R. K. Singh said that “Hospitals can seek permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for either air ambulances or helicopters to be operational within 60 km range of the hospitals. So far, no hospital from Ahmedabad has applied for permission for air ambulance service.”
