Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, a legend who was born in the year 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat has left his mark of glory not only in the place where he was born, but on the whole world. He came and he fought without any weapons yet conquered the hearts of all the Indians. He was and still continues to be an epitome of courage, humanity and confidence. This is the reason why he is, was and will always be the most relevant person not only in this 21st century but in all others yet to come. If we had a leader and visionary like him today, the picture of India would have been dramatically different.
His ideology and his perceptions sets him apart from rest of the freedom fighters. His most shocking yet modest line “If someone slaps you on one cheek show him your another cheek.” Thus only through his words he would put the other person to shame making him realise his own mistake. In today’s era if we start practicing this principle of Gandhi, half of the problems will be solved already.
Today everyone is dealing with their own ego, jealousy and superiority complex. Hardly does anybody realise the importance of humility. Thus this one factor of being composed during adverse situations should be learnt from Gandhi and needs to be practiced.
“An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.” This is yet another intense lesson to be learnt by Gandhi. In today’s world there is so much competition amongst each other that people relentlessly keep reacting in the way they feel. They have forgotten that there is a difference between reacting and responding. We should respond instead of giving an instant reaction. If someone does bad to you and you do bad in turn then there seems to be no difference between you and the other person. Instead of getting down to their level, try to gulp their action with grace and then let them feel deep inside their own mistake. On a contrary if we react, in the same manner as them, they would try to go a step higher in their wrong deeds giving you an equal competition in cruelty.
Gandhi was a social and a moral mirror. He was a simple person with a simple life-style but yet managed to be the most extraordinary person of his era. Gandhi had a very sorted life. A barrister by profession and someone who hails from a comfortable family, he had absolutely no requirement of plunging into India’s freedom drive. It was his own passion and loyalty towards his nation which made him leave all the richness and comfort and serve his nation when the nation needed him the most. Similarly if we start being a little less selfish and start looking at the broader picture of life we would find ourselves satisfied and will grow as a much better person with mental peace.
While this 21st century is flooded with privileges, opportunities and free-markets, it also has witnessed violence, disparity and inequality. Earlier man used to hunt animals. But today the situation is worse and a man is hunting another man. We cannot look at other’s happiness and be happy in fact get envious about it. In such a condition, it is only these ideas which keep us grounded and makes us believe that we are humans who are not made for such atrocities.
Gandhi is an epitome of “ONE MAN ARMY.” It inspires us that one man can change the whole world and that the journey of 1000 miles, starts with a single step. His out of the box thinking and ideas spread like fire and they were big milestones in the journey of freedom. We all tend to give up even without starting. These little ideas of Gandhi remind us that we are enough for ourselves and shouldn’t quit at any point in life. Letting go of things we aspire for is not and can never be an option. This is why Gandhi’s ideas are relevant even today.
We all must definitely follow this idea of Gandhi which says, “We must be the change we wish to see.” As they say that charity begins at home, likewise change begins at heart. Only if you change, your kids will change and then the whole society will change at large. Only if you be the change you can see the change.
We all are made from mud and one day will dig into this same mud. In this whole process we should do something which will leave our foot prints on the sands of time. Let the whole world remember us like how we all are reminded of Gandhi even after decades of this demise. “The Father of Our Nation” our “BAPU” is not bound by any era and his life and principles had and will have followers eternally.
Jai Hind!!!
