A Letter to father from son on Father’s day

Dear Papa,

Greetings! Entire world celebrates the 3rd Sunday of June as Father’s day, so do I. but one thing I didn’t understand why there should be only one day for father to be remember him, acknowledge him and praise him. Father is such a bank which gives unlimited amount of exponential happiness to his children.

Since centuries there are lot of things, articles, poems, stories, legends, epics, etc written for mother. But nobody cared to write a single sentence for a father. In folk Gujarati literature there are many things written for mother i.e. માં તે માં, બીજા બધા વગડા ના વા, ઘોડે ચડતો બાપ મરજો પણ દળણાં દળતી માં ન મરજો, મીઠા મધુરા મીઠા મેહુલા રે લોલ, એથી મીઠી તે મોરી માત રે, જનની ની જોડ સખી નહિ જડે રે લોલ etc and lot more. See, even on father’s day not a single sentence is coming in mind for father. Therefore I snatch this opportunity today to express my sense of gratitude towards you.

A woman when conceives a child, she carries her child for 9 months in her womb but a father carries his child in his mind throughout the life. A tired and exhausted father when comes home after fighting whole day with entire world, a child rushes to him and plays with him; at this moment a father forgets all his worries & tiredness and losses himself in child’s world. When a child asks something which may not be affordable for a father, he doesn’t deny it but he kills his own luxuries, his needs and his aspirations just to make his child smile. When a child falls ill, a father tirelessly awakes whole night and pray god for child’s speedy recovery. When a child falls down, he/she screams oh maa, but it will be a father’s hand that will come first to hold a child. A father himself not wear good clothes but ensures his children get branded clothes; father may have studied in ordinary school but he never thinks to spend even his lifelong capital for better education of his children. A father may use bicycle or old moped but gets his child latest vehicles. A father always forgives his children so effortlessly and spends his entire life for his children so selflessly even without an expectation of an appreciation of a single word. It is also said that જે કર ઝુલાવે પારણું તે જગ પર શાસન કરે, but I would proudly say, જે આંગળી પકડીને શીખવાડે ચાલવું, એ દિલ પર શાસન કરે.

You have done all above things for me without any expectation and appreciation. I am blessed to have a father like you. Today I proudly say that “dear papa, the fragrance of my costliest perfume is worthless in front of the aroma of your perspiration. I am indebted to you for births & births”. Happy Father’s day, may you live longer & longer. Love you.

Your Son.
