Ahmedabad railway station will soon get wi-fi facility on trial basis by the end of this month as said by Railway Minister Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu while inaugurating free Wi-Fi facility for public at New Delhi railway station. The wi-fi hotspot devices have been now installed at Kalupur railway station in Ahmedabad by Sistema Shyam Teleservices (SSTL) which operates in India as MTS India. Around 50 access points(devises) are installed at a distance of 50 meters from each others. The devices, are undergoing test by the Railway department at present. This Wi-Fi project on Indian Railways is being executed by RailTel, a Public Sector undertaking of the Ministry of Railways.
The Wi-Fi facility is to be provided at 75 A1 category stations within a period of 12 months. On trial basis, the facility is first going to be launched at Agra, Ahmedabad and Varanasi by end of December 2014 and at Howrah, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai and Secunderabad by Januanry 2015.

- Switch On Wi-Fi on your mobile
- Choose Wi-Fi network- RailWire which is free
- Open browser
- Enter mobile number to register
- After successful registration, you will get one time password (OTP) via SMS
- Enter this password and now you are now ready for surfing.
The RailWire powered Wi-Fi will give maximum speed of 1 mbps. Access is free for the first 30 minutes, after which commuters need to purchase extra browsing time online or buy a scratch card from the kiosk set up at the station. For 30 minutes of extra browsing time commuters will have to pay Rs 25 and for 1 hour the price is Rs 35, and these are valid for 24 hours.
