Best Gujarati Natak (Dramas) of all time
There are certain nataks that would not only make you laugh but will also touch your heart with the message it provides. The success of the Gujarati nataks has driven them to the big screen of cinemas. There are many nataks which have been recreated by some legendary Bollywood actors and directors. Gujarati theatre has evolved a lot over time and has a history that can be traced back to the 14th century. So the Bhavai has always been there in us Gujaratis.
1. Baa aa mari boundary
This is a drama that is a perfect combination of comedy and emotions. The story revolves around Bharti Bhatia who is an old woman in a strained family where no one cares about her, and she is treated like a piece of furniture. How the tables turn and ‘baa’ makes her place in the house is hilarious and touches the critical aspect of a family.
Directed by Vipul Mehta and Padmarani in the lead, this family comedy-drama is my personal favourite, and a must watch for all the Natak fans out there. This drama was later recreated as a movie ‘Super Nani’ starring Rekha and Sharman Joshi.
2. 102 not out
The phenomenon of old age is very subjective to every individual. Some are cheerful, some are depressed, and some just try to be with their family. This natak is very refreshing along with being hilarious. It teaches you to have a young heart even during old age and to enjoy each moment of life.
A beautiful play by Somya Joshi which was later created into a movie directed by him starring Amitabh Bachan and Rishi Kapoor. When the bowler called life throws you problems than just hit a six and say 102 not out.
3. Lo Gujjubhai aa gaam gajavyu
Siddharth Randeria is the ultimate king of comedy; how can I miss his natak. The story is a typical Gujarati love story and how gujjubhai ends up like a tennis ball between his wife and his mother. A story that would make you laugh so hard that it would hurt. Do watch this natak and I am sure you will enjoy every bit of it.
4. Welcome Zindagi
This is another beautiful drama by Somya Joshi that depicts the difference between realities and aspirations. It revolves around father, son and mother who lives in Mumbai in a 2BHK and their conflicts on life and its experiences.
The story is narrated by the wife and the mother who brings in the fun and the sarcastic parts in the drama. Take some time out and do watch this light-hearted drama with your family.
5. Lage Raho Gujjubhai
Siddharth randeria is back to win your heart all over again. This time he has brought in much more fun and a laugh riot. The story revolves around a married middle-class man and his dream girl ‘Chandani’ and how he could impress her on finally meeting her.
A story that would make you laugh on its every bit and has a fantastic star cast as well. Don’t miss this one.
6. Kanji Viruddh Kanji
A very refreshing story of how a person files a case against God for everything that he has lost. This drama is a challenge on all the blind beliefs that people follow in the name of the Almighty in every religion. Tiku Talsania has done justice to this role, and his comedy picks are amazing and hilarious.
An award-winning play was later also made into a movie “Oh my God” that had Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar as the star cast. The movie was also a great success.
7. Baa ne gher babo aavyo
The story revolves around a couple who is not able to have a child but at the age of 55 artificial inseminations comes into the picture. This natak is an example that challenges society and its morals. A drama that breaks the boundaries of ‘what will others think’ and makes own happiness a priority.
