As blessed as Gujarat is with rich culture and mouth-watering food, it also has the longest mainland coastline in India. Gujarat has 1214.7 kilometers long coastline which is approx. 23% of the country’s total mainland coastline. Although Gujarat may not have any major beaches, it has plenty of natural beauty around its mainland coastline. Today we’ll see some of the popular beaches of Gujarat.

Dumas beach

Dumas beach

Dumas beach is 6.6 km away from Surat airport. It is the most popular weekend destination for locals as well as tourists in Surat. The beach gets most crowded on holidays. You can find lots of locals selling food and snacks. It is not unknown that Dumas beach is one of the Top 10 most haunted places in India. You will find lots of articles on the web stating different theories of people who witnessed such paranormal activities. Apart from them all, it’s only pleasant when the beach is less crowded. Because when it gets crowded you will barely find a place to sit or a spot to park your vehicle. However, it’s a nice place to enjoy with friends and family.

Tithal beach

Tithal beach

Tithal beach is 6.7 km away from Valsad and is known for its brownish black colored soil. This beach is usually calm and peaceful but it gets crowded during the holidays. Tourists can visit the nearby Swaminarayan temple, Saibaba temple, and Shantidham temple. You can also find food stalls serving snacks like coconut water, bhel, corn, dabeli, sugarcane juice, etc. Many tourists will agree that this beach is really good for a long walk.

Dandi beach

Dandi beach

Dandi is famous for the historic movement of Salt March/Salt Satyagraha led by Mahatma Gandhi. The beach is 16.9 km away from Navsari railway station and around 1 km from Dandi village, Navsari. Dandi beach is a good picnic spot and is usually clean. You can also go to Samarpan ashram which is just about 3.6 km from the Dandi beach. You can meditate, do yoga and enjoy some peaceful time off from this busy life.

Madhavpur beach

Madhavpur beach

Madhavpur beach is 78.8 km from the main city of Junagadh and 4.1 km from Madhavpur town. Along the sandy coastline and graced with coconut trees, Madhavpur is unlike other beaches in Gujarat. The coastal highway is parallel to the beach hence, giving the serene pleasure when driving on the road. The sea is quite stormy at times, hence it is not recommended for baths or swims. The beach is usually clean most of the times. You can enjoy fresh coconuts here. And you can also visit Osho Ashram which is 5.1 km from the beach.

Porbandar beach

Porbandar beach

Porbandar being the center of marine activities and trade back in the day, Porbandar beach is one of the most known beaches of Gujarat. This beach, often known as Chowpati beach, is perfect for peace-loving people as it provides a very tranquil atmosphere. There are plenty of rides and activities for kids. And food is easily available. Moreover, they’ve developed a really good seating arrangement.

Mandvi beach

Mandvi beach

This beach is known for its clear water, some even say it’s azure blue in color, well it is definitely better than what you usually get to see in Gujarat. And the beach is usually clean but you can expect some dirt here and there after weekends and holidays. Well, there are two parts of the beach; one is free and open to the public, while there’s this other part of the beach privately managed by Vijay Vilas Palace where you can pay some amount for the stay. Hence, the latter part is cleaner obviously. You will find white sand here which is not common, but it’s in Kutch so we can expect that here.

Dwarka beach

Dwarka beach

Dwarka beach lies along the Arabian Sea from where you can also see the Dwarka lighthouse. The beach is approx. 1.5 km from the main Dwarka city. You can also visit Beyt or Bet Dwarka by boat or ferry, which is 3 km from the coast of Okha. The temple is located at Bet Dwarka (Shankhodhar). Bet Dwarka is an island at the Gulf of Kutch. Although you’ll have to take the boat ride at your own risk.

Concluding, I’d like to say that we usually complain about cleanliness on the beach and blame the government for not maintaining it. Well, you can only clap with two hands. As much as it’s the government’s job to maintain it, it is our ethical duty to help them achieve that task. Whenever we go to visit a public place, we buy stuff and throw off the garbage right on the ground. Some may argue that there were no dustbins. Well, then you can just put all the trash in a bag and keep it with you and later dump it in the right place. There is no excuse for your bad manners and you not having any discipline. If we truly want to enjoy these places, we should have a moral understanding to keep it clean.

The activist is not the man who says the river is dirty. The activist is the man who cleans up the river. – Ross Perot

Keep clean, stay green!
